Accountability Over Excuses

Rule #7: Accountability Over Excuses

📖 Part of the GYMHOOD® Discipline Series

You’re either surrounded by people who hold you to a standard -
or people who let you off the hook.

One builds discipline.
The other builds excuses.

You are who you train with

Whether it’s in the gym, in your home, or online -
who you listen to shapes how you show up.

I used to give myself a pass:
“Missed a session? That’s okay. I’ll go tomorrow.”
But tomorrow turns into next week when no one’s keeping score.

Now? I tell Joanne my plan.
She knows if I miss. I know if she misses.
We’re not competing - we’re checking each other.

You don’t need a drill sergeant.
You need someone who asks, “Did you train today?”

You vs You

You also need to get better at calling yourself out.
Discipline starts in the mirror.

It’s easy to post your wins on social media.
But can you post the days you struggled - and still showed up?
That’s real accountability.

What changed for me

I stopped pretending no one was watching.
Because I was watching.
And when I let myself off, it got easier to do it again.

Now? I treat excuses like weakness.
I don’t hide from them - I kill them early.

What to do today:

✅ Tell someone what you’re doing this week - and ask them to hold you to it
✅ Post your session and tag it with intention
✅ Call yourself out if you slipped yesterday - but don’t stay there
✅ Tag @WearTheMindset / #GYMHOODDiscipline and use today’s post to recommit

You don’t need to be perfect.
You need to be honest.
That’s how discipline grows.

🔥 Wear the Mindset. Choose Accountability Over Excuses.
